Man Says 'Medical Marijuana' Prescribed, but Bought from Drug Dealer

A Canton man accused of nearly crashing into a police cruiser said the alleged pot found in his car was medical marijuana, but later admitted he bought it from a drug dealer, according to the Cartersville Police Department incident report, attached.

Christopher David Jones, 29, allegedly pulled his Saab into oncoming traffic Monday on Highway 41 about 9:15 p.m., causing an officer on patrol to brake suddently and swerve.

Jones said he had been looking at his phone, trying to find a location via GPS, when he pulled out in front of the police officer. But Jones "seemed extremely nervous," and "hand was shaking rapidly" as he "was stumbling and stuttering over words," the officer wrote.

When asked if police could search his car, Jones allegedly replied, "But sir I am not nervous." He then consented to a search of his vehicle, but grabbed a "medium size" bag of suspected marijuana from the center console as he got out, police say.

Jones said it "was medical marijuana and it helped him with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder," reported the officer. "I then asked Mr. Jones if this 'medical marijuana' was prescribed by a doctor and he advised no and later agreed that he bought it from a drug dealer."

He was arrested and charged with failure to obey a stop sign, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, possession of a drug-related object and possession of marijuana by ingestion.
