Witness: Alleged Shooter Was Playing with Gun, 'Acting All Gangster'

Cartersville police have identified the 24-year-old Adairsville woman shot in the face early Saturday at a local motel.

Cartersville police have identified 24-year-old Classie Rochelle Pratt of Adairsville as the woman who was shot in the face Saturday at Courtesy Inn on Highway 411 in Cartersville.

While Pratt was still in critical but stable condition at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, the alleged shooter, who authorities haven't identifying, had not been apprehended as of Sunday morning, Capt. Mark Camp said.

A witness, who told police the shooting was accidental, told police he had rented the Efficiency Lodge room Saturday night so he and Pratt could "chill and drink beer," according to the police reports released Sunday.

"(The witness said that) during the night a male subject came over to hang out with them. (He) stated during the night that the subject pulled out a black pistol to show it off. (He) then stated that the subject started playing with the gun acting all gangster, and Ms. Pratt said, 'You couldn't shoot anybody,'" an officer wrote in one of the reports.

"(The witness then) stated that the subject said, 'Yea I will, I'll shoot you.' (He) stated the subject was just kidding with Ms. Pratt and put the gun in Ms. Pratt's face. (He) stated Ms. Pratt then grabbed the gun and it went off. (He) stated that after the gun went off the...subject ran out of the room and (the witness) called the police."

When police arrived, Pratt "was standing in between two beds with blood on her face, hands, in her hair, and on her clothing," according to a second police report. She was taken to Grady by helicopter.
