Crazy Crime Stories: Man Says He's King of the House; 115 in a 55 Requires Bond

Recent happenings in Cartersville and Bartow County crime include a man with two kids who fled on foot from his car and a man who was jailed for loud music.

Police: Man with Meth, Kids Flees from Car on Foot

A routine foot patrol in a high-crime area known for illicit drugs netted a Tuesday night foot chase and an arrest.

Officers reported they noticed about 9 p.m. at a car with a broken windshield, a passenger who "hurriedly" got in and tried to leave, and two children in the back, ages 6 and 7, not properly buckled up. They say the front passenger, Samuel Eugene Boyd, 42, of Willis Road in Cartersville, "ran into the car upon sight of the officers," according to the incident report.

Police determined Boyd was on probation, conducted a pat down and found suspected methamphetamine in a folded dollar in his back pocket. That's when Boyd allegedly ran to a nearby storage facility, according to officers, leaving his children in the motel parking lot.

A short time later, Boyd was arrested in the yard of a Grassdale Road home. Authorities say they also found in his possession a small bag of alleged meth.

Boyd was arrested and charged with possession of meth and obstruction of police.

Man: I'm 'King of the House'

In a separate Tuesday night incident, an intoxicated man who tried to get behind the wheel found himself behind bars.

deputies about 11:30 p.m. responded to a domestic dispute at a Geneva Lane home in Cartersville. Witnesses reported an extremely intoxicated Edwin Deberry Burley, 47, proclaimed he was "king of the house" and no one could tell him what to do.

A staggering Burley then allegedly pushed a woman and tried to leave. Witnesses said they wrestled him to regain control of his car keys.

When police arrived, Burley was seated in the bathroom. He allegedly refused to rise, saying, "I'm not going anywhere," after an officer asked how to spell his name. He told the cop to "figure it out."

Arrested on the bathroom floor, Burley was charged with simple battery under the Family Violence Act and misdemeanor obstruction of officers.

Third Time's a Charm for Loud Music

Alcohol may have been a factor in the Tuesday arrest of a local man who allegedly repeatedly refused to reduce the volume of his music.

Robert Wayne Finch, 31, of Carson Loop in Cartersville, was arrested the second time authorities were called to a noise disturbance at his Cass-White Road motel room, according to the incident report.

Several people were drinking on the patio while the music in Finch's room blared, disturbing his neighbors around midnight. Authorities responding to the first call told Finch shortly after 11 p.m. to turn down the music, but deputies were back by 12:20 a.m.

They asked Finch a second time to control the noise, but he allegedly refused to comply.

"Robert argued with me briefly, and then did turn the music down," the deputy reported. "As I was approaching my vehicle to leave, Robert turned the music back up to a very loud level.

"I re-directed back to the room and placed Robert under arrest for [allegedly maintaining a] disorderly house."

115 in a 55 Lands Driver in Jail

It was about 5 p.m. on a Thursday when a BCSO patrol captain clocked a white BMW allegedly traveling 115 mph on Highway 41 in Adairsville.

Following the Sept. 6 traffic stop, the driver, Christopher Derrik Boston, 29, of Adairsville, was cited for speeding in a 55 mph zone and taken to jail "for a bond due to his reckless endangerment to the occupants of the vehicle and to the motorists on the roadway," according to the incident report.

The owner of the 2002 BMW 525 was in the car during the incident. Boston was booked into jail on a speeding charge.
