Updated: Bottle Tossed in Trash Can Causes Small Explosion

No one was hurt at the Carmike Cinemas in Cartersville on the evening of Valentine's Day as a homemade explosive device detonated, police say.

A person placed something in a trash can at Cartersville's Carmike Cinemas just before it started smoking and a small explosion occurred, according to the Bartow County Sheriff's Office incident report, attached.

Investigators don't have any suspects or possible motives in the Valentine's Day incident, according to Sgt. Jonathan Rogers, but saw security video footage of a person getting out the back seat of a silver car, which had pulled up and parked on the curb, and walking straight to the garbage can.

A short time later, about 5:30 p.m., the explosive device consisting of a clear bottle, some type of liquid and aluminum foil, detonated. Although it rattled nerves, the small explosion caused no damage, reported FOX Atlanta.

Cartersville Police Department Capt. Mark Camp told CBS Atlanta the bottle was filled with some type of acid, but authorities haven't determined what exactly it contained, Rogers said. The Georgia Buruea of Investigation's bomb unit found no other explosive devices.

Investigators this week won't be releasing video of the suspect or explosion, but may provide a photo of the silver car, Rogers said.
