Teen Accused in Machete Killing of Dog

The boy, charged with felonies, is housed in a youth detention facility pending a Juvenile Court hearing.

authorities arrested a 15-year-old boy in connection to a Rydal animal cruelty investigation.

According to Sheriff Clark Millsap, a resident of the Indian Springs subdivision, just outside Cartersville, filed a Dec. 10 report indicating her black and white French Brittany Spaniel had been missing since Dec. 3. She told deputies the rumor among kids in the area was the teen had been bragging about taking and killing the dog behind the subdivision.

Millsap in a press release said investigators, deputies and K-9 handlers yesterday found the dog, which appeared to have been killed by a sharp object, in the area described by witnesses. Authorities suspect the dog was killed with a machete.

Investigators arrested and charged the 15-year-old boy, whose name will not be released, with aggravated cruelty to animals and theft by taking, both felony counts. He is currently housed in a youth detention center awaiting a hearing.

The dog's body was returned to the owner for proper burial.
