Accountant Accused of Stealing $40K from Client

Police last week arrested Robert "Rob" Mark Salzberg, 41, of Adairsville, who had been employed at Professional Accounting and Financial Services in Cartersville.

A local accountant and tax preparer is accused of stealing a client's money through his side business and ministry.

Robert "Rob" Mark Salzberg, 41, of Barnsley Village Trail in Adairsville, faces more than 20 charges, including theft by violation of a fiduciary responsibility, third-degree forgery and fourth-degree forgery. He was employed by Professional Accounting and Financial Services in Cartersville.

The owner Nov. 28 notified the Cartersville Police Department that an employee, during the previous year, had allegedly forged 20 checks that belonged to a client, totaling $39,452.55, according to the incident report, attached.

Salzberg allegedly wrote the checks to his business, Rev It Up Marketing, and his ministry, There Is Always Hope Ministries, depositing the funds in those accounts. He then allegedly withdrew and deposited the money in his personal account.

The accountant and tax preparer allegedly used a signature stamp to forge the client's John Hancock.

Salzberg provided bookkeeping and tax prep services at Professional Accounting and Financial Services for about three years, according to his LinkedIn profile. It says he's an Internet marketing consultant, blogging expert and instructor, financial management counselor and active member of Living Way Foursquare Church in Adairsville.

He founded There Is Always Hope Ministries to provide transitional housing and counseling to alcohol and drug addicts, according to the profile.

This is too bad. As an accountant in Victoria BC, I understand the temptation when you are dealing with money, but what a waste to throw away all of that schooling and hard work. Plus it's unethical. It's a shame this happened.
