Residents Wanted for Bartow Citizens Academy

The deadline to apply for the course taught by the sheriff's office is April 7. The fee is $25.

The Bartow County Sheriff's Office is inviting the public to learn more about its agency through its upcoming Citizens Academy.

The next academy will start on April 10, and registration is open to county residents or anyone who works inside the county.

Applications can be picked up at the sheriff's office, located at 104 Zena Drive in Cartersville. The deadline to apply is April. 7.

"The Citizens Academy program is a great opportunity to connect with citizens and share some in some of the activities and functions that are sometimes only seen by those in law enforcement," Sheriff Clark Millsap said. "It's a good program that brings citizens and law enforcement closer together."

Residents taking the course will be exposed to several aspects of law enforcement, such as firearms, personal safety, jail procedures, administrative duties, criminal investigation, patrol division operations, 911 operations, court services, warrant and civil division operations, crime scene investigation, K-9 operations, CRP certification and combating terrorism.

Students will have a chance to ride along with deputies answering calls for service, working in the jail and working crime scene investigations.

The cost is $25, and covers the cost of materials that will be used in the course. Residents must also undergo a background check before being accepted into the class.
