The Cartersville Police Department is investigating a burglary in which the suspect told the manager he was trying to stay out of the cold weather.

The Cartersville Police Department is investigating a commercial burglary in which the suspect in question allegedly told the manager he allegedly broke into the business in an attempt to stay warm.

An officer with the agency was dispatched to Altech Panel Systems at 1 Johnson Street around 6:30 a.m. Friday in reference to a burglary. According to an incident report, the shop's manager told the officer he arrived at the place of business and discovered a man inside the shop area.

The man, described as a bearded African-American in his late 30's or early 40's, was wearing a dark-colored jacket and had a large backpack with him, the report reads.

The manager confronted the man and told officers the man said he was" just attempting to stay warm."

The manager tried to walk behind the man as he was leaving, but lost track of him after he allegedly jumped a nearby barb wire fence.

According to the report, the manager found an officer computer that had been turned on and the internet browser displayed military websites.

Police searched the area for the suspect, but did not find anything or anyone suspicious.
