Rape Suspect Faces Child Porn Charges

A Canton man facing rape charges in Bartow and Cherokee counties could be in more serious trouble.

The Adairsville Police Department has charged Chancey Earl Droney, 42, with 32 felony counts of sexual exploitation of children. 

A joint investigation with the Cherokee Sheriff's office led to the discovery of 32 pornographic images of children on Droney's cell phone, the agency said Friday afternoon in a news release. 

Adairsville Police Chief Robert Jones noted the investigation "exemplifies the partnerships between jurisdictions necessary to bring dangerous criminals to justice."

Droney is being held with no bond at the Bartow County Jail in relation to charges stemming from an incident in March that started in Cherokee County and ended in Adairsville.

At around 10:20 p.m. on March 30, Adairsville police responded to the Ramada Inn on Georgia North Circle where a woman told officers Droney abducted her in Cherokee County and transported her to the hotel. 

According to the Cherokee Sheriff's Office, the woman told authorities she had a prior relationship with Droney, and said the suspect called and asked to meet her at a restaurant in the Holly Springs area. 

Once at the restaurant, Droney produced a knife and ordered the woman into his vehicle, the Cherokee Sheriff's Office said.  

Droney then allegedly took the woman to a secluded location in that county and sexually assaulted her and later took the woman to the hotel where the alleged assault continued. 

The woman was able to get away from Droney with the assistance from a hotel clerk, who called 911.

Dropney was booked into the Bartow County Jail on rape, aggravated battery, aggravated sodomy, two counts of aggravated assault, aggravated sexual battery, battery, sexual battery, false imprisonment, criminal trespass, terroristic threats and acts and kidnapping with injury charges. 

Additionally, the Cherokee Sheriff's Office has charged Droney with kidnapping, false imprisonment, aggravated assault and rape.
