Microtel personnel at 1348 Joe Frank Harris Parkway in Cartersville called 911 Wednesday about 11:20 a.m. to report one of their patrons was "outside his room in a heavy state of intoxication" with a small child, the report says.

A hotel employee told police John Fredrick Foubert, 56, could not stand on his own power and was falling. With the help of workers, Foubert was placed inside his room and the child was taken to the front office.

When police arrived, he was asleep on the bed with his legs hanging from the side of it, according to an officer, who tried to wake Foubert. He mumbled, but "could not get a sentence straight," and could not stand without assistance, according to the officer.

Police contacted the child's mother, who said she had left Foubert and the child just prior to 9 a.m., and he was "fine," adding she would not have left their child with him if he had been in such a condition.

The child was returned to the mother and Foubert was arrested and jailed on charges of public drunk and reckless conduct.
