Police Event for Children To Focus on Safety

Cartersville law enforcement officials are urging parents to participate with their children.

In conjunction with National Missing Children’s Day, observed as such on May 25 since 1983, will host Wednesday a Child Safety Event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

"This day serves as a reminder that there are thousands of children who are still missing and stresses the importance of making child protection a national priority," officials said in a press release.

Part of the campaign initiative is “Take 25,” which challenges parents to take 25 minutes to talk with their children about safety and ways to prevent abductions.

A safety village at the event in the parking lot behind the police department will teach children about road and traffic safety.

Capt. Jeff Black told children also will receive literature on staying safe and taught the importance of knowing their full names and addresses, and not approaching strangers, especially in cars. In addition, a driving stimulator will give older kids the experience of driving while impaired. See the newspaper's full article here.
