Bartow County Board of Education police are checking Hamilton Crossing Elementary and Cass Middle schools as sheriff's deputies search for a man who pulled a gun on another man.

Rogers, a sheriff's office spokesman, said no further leads development in the investigation and search at Hamilton Crossing Park, and authorities discontinued previous efforts.

Deputies, who have only a description of the gunman, will be on the lookout for the suspect as they continue extra patrols of the area, he added.

Law enforcement officers have left the park because they believe the gunman is no longer in the area, reports on its Facebook page, citing Superintendent John Harper.

Two schools in Cartersville are on a "heightened state of alert," but not official lock downs, as authorities search for a robbery suspect, Schools Chief Dan Knowles said.

Sheriff's Sgt. Jonathan Rogers said a man pulled a gun on the victim in near Highway 293 and Hamilton Crossing Road. The male victim fled, as did the suspect.

Deputies are searching the area in attempts to find the gunman, and school police officers are conducting walk-through searches at and .

Elementary school officials are telling parents who call and inquire about the situation that students are not allowed to be alone while the incident is ongoing, but the facility's doors are open.
