Pair Arrested in Connection with Death of Child

The 1-year-old was declared dead in the emergency room.

The Bartow County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two people in connection with the death of a child, according to a press release.

Sheriff Clark Millsap said in the release a 1-year-old child, reportedly not breathing, was taken to Cartersville Medical Center. Deputies and investigators from the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office responded and began an investigation.

The child was declared dead in the emergency room. Investigators interviewed the mother of the child and her boyfriend, and searched their home.

Though the results of the autopsy are not final, investigators arrested late Thursday the mother, 25-year-old Brandy Ann Boyd, and her boyfriend, 24-year-old Austin Levi Payne, on charges of aggravated battery and first-degree cruelty to children.

Millsap said further charges against the two are likely, pending the final autopsy results.
