No Charges Anticipated in Pedestrian Fatality

Authorities say the man walking along Burnt Hickory Road was dressed in dark clothing and stepped into traffic.

officials say the pedestrian killed shortly after 9 p.m. Wednesday was Joseph Bryan Cole, 30, of Cartersville. He was walking south on Burnt Hickory Road with his back to southbound traffic when the crash occurred near Sugar Valley Road.

"For reasons unknown, he apparently stepped into the travel lane and was hit by a southbound vehicle. That driver stopped and returned to the scene where another motorist had also stopped to assist. Another southbound vehicle slowed for the other vehicles but also struck Mr. Cole," Spokesman Gordy Wright said.

The incident is under investigation, but Wright said no charges are expected. Cole was dressed in dark clothing with dark shoes, he added.
