'Mommy Was Hurting Daddy'

An Emerson woman is accused of child cruelty, simple battery and making threats in a Cartersville gas station brawl involving a knife.

A woman allegedly pulled a knife in front of her children Saturday after an argument turned into a physical altercation in a gas station parking lot.

Melanie Elaine Teer, 28, of Emerson, allegedly said the man was "being a jerk" and "called her fat," and admitted she hit him in the face at BP on Kingston Highway 113 about 12:30 p.m.

Another customer spotted the two arguing as he pulled into the parking lot, then saw Teer strike the male victim several times and the man throw a knife out the window on the way out of the gas station parking lot. The witness called police.

The alleged victim said they were arguing about baseball practices, but Teer said it was about being late to practice. She allegedly admitted to grabbing the knife and saying, "I'm going to cut you," according to the incident report.

The man said he was able to get the knife and threw it out the window as they left the convenience store. It was later recovered as evidence.
