Men Steal Beer from Tractor-Trailer

Two Atlanta men were jailed early this morning. Authorities believe they were stealing from a big rig at a local truck stop.

deputies arrested two Atlanta men on multiple charges stemming from the alleged theft of items from a tractor trailer at TA on Cass-White Road, according to the press release.

According to Sheriff Clark Millsap, deputies went to the truck stop responding to a call reporting suspicious people carrying boxes behind trucks at about 2:39 this morning. When the first deputy arrived, the men were leaving in a U-haul truck. Upon stopping the truck, the two occupants fled on foot. Two men were later located and arrested in connection with the truck.

In the back of the U-haul truck, deputies found 52 cases of beer and determined from which tractor trailer it had been stolen.

Richard Lee Matthews, 45, and Jan Keith Glass, 43, both of Atlanta, were arrested and face numerous charges including entering an auto and criminal trespass. Matthews is being held on a $6,000 bond and Glass is being held with a state parole hold.

Millsap stated that his department is contacting other agencies around the metro area to see if these men may have been committing the same crimes in other jurisdictions.
