Update: Duo Fears Man With A Gun, Drives To Cartersville Hospital For Help

Cartersville Medical Center officials say an apparent domestic disturbance occurred in the parking lot.

Updated 4:15 p.m.

Bartow County sheriff's authorities arrested a Morrow man for "several serious offenses involving a gun" this morning at Cartersville Medical Center.

Sheriff Clark Millsap said in the press release deputies were called by hospital staff at 8:39 a.m. about a man with a gun at the emergency room entrance of the hospital. Two deputies arrived on the scene within 2 minutes of the call.
Once there, they met with hospital security officers, who had 52-year-old Harris Lee Holiday detained outside the entrance.

After investigating the scene and speaking with witnesses, authorities determined Holiday had arrived at the hospital after showing a gun to a female acquaintance and allegedly demanding she take him somewhere.

The woman, Holiday and another man in the car, a witness, told deputies Holiday showed them a gun and they were in fear of him hurting them with it. The woman drove to Cartersville Medical Center and the other male jumped out of the car and ran to get security.

Deputies located a pistol where Holiday, a convicted felon, had allegedly put it in the car.

He was arrested, transported to the Bartow County jail and charged with false imprisonment, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He is currently being held with a $15,000 bond.

Authorities say no mug shot of Holiday is available at this time due to his lack of cooperation with jail booking procedures.

It was reported previously that Holiday was inside the hospital and this was found not to be true, the press release says.

Original Report 12 p.m.

A man with a gun was arrested this morning outside Cartersville Medical Center following an apparent domestic disturbance, according to spokeswoman Ginger Tyra.

Despite reports to the contrary, the incident happened in the parking lot, she said in an email. The Daily Tribune News reported earlier via Facebook that a man with a gun had entered the hospital.

Tyra released the following statement about the incident:

"The apparent domestic incident that occurred today in the parking area at Cartersville Medical Center was contained outside the medical facility.  The subject who allegedly was in possession of a firearm never entered the building and at no time were there any patient or staff safety issues or shots fired.  Upon learning of the situation, Cartersville Medical Center Security immediately notified law enforcement and the subject is now in custody."
