Man Who Tried Murder-Suicide Pleads Guilty to Voluntary Manslaughter

William Franklin Crabbs, 63, who is set to be sentenced June 25, was charged in connection with the death of his wife, Susan Alice Miles.

A Cartersville man whose murder-suicide attempt was interrupted by a home health nurse has pleaded guilty in the incident that later claimed his wife's life.

William Franklin Crabbs, 63, pleaded guilty Tuesday to voluntary manslaughter in connection with the incident that led to the death of his wife, Susan Alice Miles, Cherokee Judicial Circuit District Attorney Rosemary Greene said in a release.

A nurse arrived at the couple's home and spotted a hose, which was connected to a vehicle exhaust pipe and continued through a window in the bedroom, where Crabbs and Miles were lying in bed, WBHF-AM 1450 reported at the time.

Miles died March 14, 2011, as a result of the injuries she sustained, Greene said. Crabbs was originally charged with criminal attempt to commit murder.

Superior Court Judge Scott Smith is set June 25 to sentence Crabbs on the voluntary manslaughter conviction, Greene said.
