Updated: Man Shot, Hospitalized

Cartersville police say Johnnie Benton, 32, was air lifted to an Atlanta trauma center.

Police still don't know where 34-year-old Johnnie Benton was when last night he was shot once in the chest. The 911 call originated at the Citgo on Grassdale Road, where Benton was found lying on the ground.

Currently in critical but stable condition, Benton was air lifted to an Atlanta-area hospital from the old Cass High School parking lot.

Cartersville Police Department and investigators are working the case, but have no suspects and no apparent motive for the shooting.

Shortly after 7 p.m. Monday, officers were called to Grassdale Road near the Citgo gas station at the corner of Thornwood Drive. Johnnie Benton, 34, had been shot.

"It is still unknown where the shooting took place and there are no suspects and no motive at this time," police said in a press release.

Police believe the shooting took place somewhere between the Citgo and Benfield Circle. Benton was air lifted to an Atlanta trauma center in critical condition.
