Man's Throat Cut in Gas Station

Cartersville police arrested a man they say was drunk in public for the alleged aggravated assault at the store's cash register.

A man who smelled strongly of alcohol put a knife to the throat of a customer at a Cartersville gas station, according to a report.

It's unclear how the men are acquainted, but officers who responded to Citgo at Highway 41 and Zena Drive about 7:30 last night indicated the two are not strangers. The 52-year-old alleged victim, a local man, said resident Ellis Hyatt, 54, put a knife to his throat, causing a cut.

The gas station attendant told police Hyatt pulled the knife and placed it to the man's throat while the victim was at the register.

Officers say Hyatt stumbled a bit before they found a blue, mult-use knife in his pocket. He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and public drunkenness.

The victim showed police the injury to his neck, which apparently did not require medical treatment.
