Drowning Victim Recovered from Lake

In the Saturday incident, another man was rescued by witnesses of the incident at the U.S. Navy recreation area on Sandtown Road.

Rescuers recovered Prater's body from Lake Allatoona about 3:20 p.m. Monday, the Associated Press reports.

Rescuers were set to return to Lake Allatoona to search for the body of James Marquez Prater, 28, of Adairsville, who is believed to have drowned Saturday, WSB Radio reports.

Prater—without a life jacket—was riding an inner tube pulled by a boat occupied by several others in his party, according to the BCSO incident report. He fell off the float and went under, at which time another man jumped in to help.

Firefighters responding to the scene pulled the second man from the lake.

Only one of the several people on the boat was wearing a life jacket.

Authorities are searching for a man believed to have drowned near a boat rental facility at a military recreation area on Sandtown Road in Cartersville.

Sgt. Jonathan Rogers said in an email witnesses about 1:30 p.m. reported two men in the water who appeared to be drowning at the U.S. Navy facility that provides lodging and recreation for military personnel.

Bystanders rescued one of the men, both of whom are between the ages of 26 and 30, but the other man went missing and may have drowned.

A search for him is in progress. Authorities have not released either man's identity.

Last weekend, 34-year-old man was near Acworth in Cherokee County. He had drowned following a family picnic.
