Man Killed in Highway 61 Crash in Bartow County

His 2002 Dodge Dakota left the roadway in a curve, traveled down an embankment and struck a tree.

A man was killed Monday when his truck left the roadway in a curve near Cartersville.

Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright said troopers from the Cartersville post about 6:05 p.m. responded to the single-vehicle crash on Highway 61 at Hatfield in Bartow County.

A 2002 Dodge Dakota pickup truck driven by Howard Mark Streetman, 47, of Rockmart, was traveling south on GA 61 when it left the roadway in a curve, traveled down an embankment and struck a tree with the right side and top of the vehicle, Wright said.

Streetman died in the crash. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

Authorities drew Streetman's blood for testing, apparently to determine if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
