Man Drives Off from Tire Store on Two Rims

The following arrest information was supplied by the Bartow County Sheriff's Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A man drove off from a tire store on two tires and two rims, getting the attention of employees and many witnesses along the roadway.

The man told the Bartow County deputy who stopped him that he didn't have enough money to buy tires and he'd have to drive it this way until he got his next paycheck.

The deputy was told to look for a silver passenger car driving without two tires at 1 p.m. on Thurdsay. An employee form Fowler Tire called 911 to report a suspected drunk driver left the area, driving toward Hwy. 20 and Shoney's. Before he caught up with the suspect, several more 911 calls were made about the car being driven erratically, failing to maintain its lane and that the car had lost two tires and was traveling on rims.

The deputy found the car being driven east on Hwy. 20 near the I-75 underpass. He stopped the car, and asked the driver why he was driving on two rims. The deputy reported the driver "said he was going to have to wait until he received his paycheck tomorrow to buy tires and was just going to have to drive it like this until then."

The man said he had not had anything to drink. A search of the car revealed a small wooden box with a metal smoking device and a green, leafy substance the deputy believed to be marijuana.
