Man Dives Off Boat, Drowns in Lake Allatoona

The 23-year-old never surfaced after jumping in the water at Red Top Mountain State Park in Cartersville.

Update

DNR Law Enforcement Division Sgt. Mike Barr said Alexander, the drowning victim, was with a group of family members on the rental boat in the area of the Red Top Mountain State Park swim beach, near the rock jetty, about 75 feet from shore.

Alexander asked how deep the water was, and was told it was deep. He jumped in and according to accounts, initially was swimming fine. Then he began to struggle.

Witnesses on shore said they heard him call for help and two people from shore tried unsuccessfully to reach him.

Alexander's body was recovered at 6:18 p.m. Sunday in about 30 feet of water.

At this point in DNR's investigation, there is no indication drugs or alcohol played any part in the incident, Barr said.
