Man Curses, Argues With Police Checking on His Daughter

He allegedly clinched his fist at a Cartersville Police Department lieutenant.

A Cartersville man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly cussing out police officers and clinching his fist at a lieutenant who told him to calm down.

Police accompanied a state Division of Family and Children Service agent to the apartment at 104 Elizabeth Street about 2:30 p.m. to conduct a welfare check on a small child, according to the Cartersville Police Department incident report, above.

Authorities knocked on the door for 3 to 4 minutes before Daniel Douglas Brown, 26, answered and barely cracked the door, according to the report. Brown then said, "Wait a sec."

About 4 to 5 minutes later, authorities were still waiting outside. After Brown opened the door half way, his wife allowed police inside. Brown was sitting on the couch holding the female child, the report says.

Brown allegedly became "loud and boisterous," and "got in (a police lieutenant's) face and stated, '(Expletive) you, what are you going to do. (Expletive) do something, come on, do something (expletive)," in the presence of his daughter, according to the report.

Despite a warning that he would be arrested for disorderly conduct, Brown allegedly continued to curse at the officer, then clinched his fists, took a step back and began to take what police described as a "fighting stance."

Brown was arrested on a disorderly conduct charge, after which he allegedly told police he hated them and continued to curse the officers.

Police say they found two knives in his right pants pocket and an empty, clear plastic baggy in his left pants pocket. Their investigation indicated drugs may have been involved, the report says.

What happened with the child is unclear, but Brown was taken to the Bartow County jail.
