Jail Inmate Attempts Escape

Contractors spotted the prisoner who had climbed onto the roof during a recreation outing.

A Bartow County Jail inmate has been charged with escape and criminal damage to government property after attempting an escape, according to a press release.

Sheriff Clark Millsap said in the release that Brian Troy Aberle, 38, of Cartersville, was spotted Thursday by contractors — who are working on the jail expansion project — on the roof around 11 a.m.

Deputies responded to the roof and Aberle was arrested without further incident. He had made it to the roof during recreation time in an enclosed courtyard area with other inmates.

Aberle was charged with escape and criminal damage to government property for allegedly cutting his jail-issued uniform on the protective wire and cables on the roof.

Sgt. Jonathan Rogers said Aberle had escaped from a previous work detail program administered by the jail.
