High-Speed Chase Ends with Gunshot

The police chase that shut down Interstate 75 for more than three hours involved a person suspected in a Kentucky homicide.

A multi-state, high-speed chase ended in Cartersville when a suspect in a homicide shot himself, Sheriff Clark Millsap said in a news release.

Fort Campbell, KY, was locked down Friday night while authorities searched for the suspect in a domestic homicide, reports the Associated Press.

The chase involved deputies when it entered the county about 2:30 a.m. It started earlier in Hamilton County, Tennessee, and had continued south on Interstate 75.

The white Cadillac police sought reached speeds up to 120 mph and I-75 was partially shut down for more than three hours due to the incident.

Pursuit ended about 2:45 a.m. near Lake Allatoona with a deputy's stop sticks and a P.I.T. maneuver. The driver was air lifted to a regional hospital in a Life Force helicopter following a self-inflicted gunshot.

Millsap said his office is assisting Fort Campbell authorities and the suspect at this time faces no charges in Bartow.
