Girlfriends Fight About Man in Cartersville Homeless Encampment

One of the two was arrested and charged with pedestrian under the influence.

Two women fought in public Tuesday at Merchants Square in Cartersville, prompting a witness to call 911.

The witness said she was driving by and saw the two fighting on the side of the road next to a store on Merchant Square Drive, according to the Bartow County Sheriff's Office incident report, above.

The younger woman, later identified as Courtney Ann Hulsey, 33, a Guest House resident, was cursing profanity at an older female, the witness told deputies. She said she watched as Hulsey "began running around in the road, screaming for no reason" and could hear the older woman "telling (Hulsey) to leave her alone, because she did not do anything to her."

Hulsey then allegedly ran up to the older woman, pushed her to the ground and a struggle ensued, which included Hulsey allegedly swinging at the older woman, 57, who is homeless, several times.

The older woman, who was dirty but didn't appear to hurt, said she and Hulsey are girlfriends and "the argument started over allegations that (Hulsey) was seeing a male subject in the homeless camp behind Walmart," according to the report. The elder woman declined to pursue assault charges against Hulsey.

Hulsey, who had left the scene before police arrived, was walking on Merchants Square Boulevard when police spotted her.

"(She) seemed intoxicated due to her slurred sometimes incomprehensible speech," and "had mud all over her face and clothes, and her clothing was stretched and soiled in appearance," a deputy wrote in the report, adding Hulsey smelled of alcohol and admitted to a confrontation, but would not elaborate.

Hulsey allegedly admitted to drinking two large beers prior to the incident and registered .180 on a portable breathalyzer. She was arrested and charged with being a pedestrian under the influence.
