Authorities suspect a self-proclaimed gang member and recent prison inmate in the armed robbery and beating of his neighbor.
The victim, a 42-year-old disabled man, suffered head wounds requiring staples in the Wednesday incident about 5 p.m. He said he and another man were walking on Eagles Court when the alleged robber approached from behind, struck him in the head with a chunk of concrete, and Tased him, according to the incident report.
Witnesses said the robber also beat the victim's head into the asphalt while his acquaintance talked on a cell phone, pacing back and forth. A couple nearby reported they saw a scuffle and intervened, the the two men wearing red hoodies fled on foot in different directions.
The victim said he may have been set up—the man accompanying him to eat was aware of his recent settlement and filled prescription. The alleged robber, who apprehended in a traffic stop about 20 minutes later, is Willie Benjamin Troupe III, 26, of North Tennessee Street.
He allegedly said he's a member of the Bloods street gang and was just released from prison. Troupe was arrested on South Tennessee Street and charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault.
Near the scene of the alleged robbery and beating, police found a flashlight stun gun. The victim, who was treated for his injuries at , said the robber took the medication and $200 in cash from his pocket.
A witness later identified Troupe as the alleged robber.
