Fire Destroys Apartment
The sole occupant of the apartment on N. Erwin Street was treated at the hospital.
A Cartersville woman was taken to the hospital and her apartment destroyed when a fire started early Monday morning.
Lt. Mitchell Bagley with the Cartersville Fire Department said the fire started in a bedroom at 112 N. Erwin St. apartment 10 around 3:43 a.m. The only occupant, a woman, was transported to Cartersville Medical Center to be treated for second-degree burns.
"I think she was going to be fine," Bagley said. "She was going to stay with her son."

The cause of the fire is undetermined, and Bagley said he wasn't sure if anything like a space heater was present. Several other apartments sustained smoke damage, and one of those also was damaged by water seeping under the wall. However, Bagley said he didn't think those residents were displaced.
"I believe they just go the smoke out of the apartments and they were able to return to their apartments," Bagley said.
