Father Arrested After Child, 2, Found Alone In Apartment Complex

A neighbor called 911 Monday morning after noticing a toddler, wearing only a diaper, wandering near an apartment complex entrance.

A Bartow County man is facing charges after his two-year-old child was found wandering alone near an apartment complex entrance.

Javares Sylvester, 24, has been charged by authorities with reckless conduct after his daughter was discovered by a neighbor.

Deputies responded around 10:45 a.m. in reference to a found child call. A resident found the little girl standing near the entrance of the apartment complex, close to the road, Bartow Sheriff Clark Millsap said in a news release.

"Deputies and some residents went door to door for approximately an hour trying to locate her family, but were unsuccessful," the sheriff added.

Investigators who responded to the scene eventually transferred the toddler to the Bartow County Department of Family and Children Services.

About two hours after receiving the initial call, the parents of the toddler showed up at DFCS offices asking about the child, Millsap said.

Sylvester remains at the Bartow County Jail with a $1,000 bond.
