Marshals Shot, Killed Man Wanted for Homicide by Vehicle

A report released today by Bartow County Sheriff's Office indicates Truitt was wanted on Cobb County warrants for first-degree homicide by vehicle, hit and run, driving on a suspended license and violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act.

The report, attached to this article, says deputies and Emerson police assisted U.S. Marshals, who said Truitt may have been armed and could have tried to run.

Marshals appeared to have knocked, then went inside the back door of the home at 52 Old Old Alabama Road in Cartersville, a deputy reported. They heard several shots, and Truitt was deceased when EMS arrived.

A Bartow man was shot and killed Thursday just before 10 p.m. as law enforcement agents and officers from several jurisdictions attempted to arrest him on a warrant, Sheriff Clark Millsap said in a press release.

is investigating the officer-involved shooting of Thomas Franklin Truitt, 37, at a home near Emerson.

Millsap said during the attempted arrest, shots were fired and Truitt was shot and killed.

Sgt. Jonathan Rogers told federal agents were serving the warrant. U.S. Marshals and local drug task force agents were at the home in the 50 block of Old Old Alabama Road in Emerson, the newspaper reports.
