Couple Driving To Church Injured In Accident

Cartersville police say a driver allegedly ran a red light on U.S. 41 and struck an SUV coming from Grassdale Road.

A couple on their way to church were injured Sunday morning in an accident in Cartersville.

According to Cartersville Police Department spokesperson Capt. Mark Camp, the couple in the SUV were traveling from Grassdale Road when a driver in another vehicle traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 41 allegedly ran a red light and hit the SUV, causing the vehicle to flip.

The male driver and female passenger inside the SUV were transported to Cartersville Medical Center to undergo treatment.

The man "has a severely injured left arm, but is expected to survive," Camp said. However, the female passenger had injuries to her back, but doctors are not sure of the extent of her injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle, who had to be extricated from the vehicle, was taken to Floyd Medical Center for treatment.
