Clerk: Woman Drinks from Wine Bottles In Cartersville Grocery Store

The Bartow County woman, who allegedly tried to steal more wine, was arrested and charged with theft by shoplifting.

A Bartow County woman drank the contents of two mini wine bottles inside a Cartersville grocery store, then tried to leave with several more wine bottles, for which she had not paid, according to the clerk who called police.

Tina Yvonne Epps, 41, of Fools Gold Road in the city of White, was arrested in connection with the Wednesday incident at Ingle's on Joe Frank Harris Parkway.

An employee called police about 5 p.m. and told deputies Epps had been walking around the store carrying two four-packs of mini wine bottles, then began to leave with paying for them, according to the Bartow County Sheriff's Office incident report, above.

After confronting Epps, the clerk saw that two of the wine bottles were empty. She told police she thinks Epps drank the contents of the bottles inside the store and was trying to steal the remaining bottles, the report says.

Epps, who authorities report smelled of alcohol, said "she was sorry for taking the items and repeatedly said she would pay for the items if 'we' would just let her go," an officer wrote in the report.

She was arrested, jailed on a shoplifting charge and issued a warning that she could be charged with criminal trespass if she returns to the store.
