When office staff returned to work Tuesday following Memorial Day weekend, they found a safe pried open and a lot of damage, according to the report.

About 8:30 a.m., an employee reported a burglary at the Old Cass-White Road church that had occurred sometime since 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Several offices were forcibly entered and a second, smaller safe removed.

The church's main safe, which had contained about $8,000 collected during Sunday church services, was pried open, causing heavy damage. In all, $8,100 in property was taken from the church.

Investigators are working the case.
