Child ID Cards, Car Seat Inspections

Bartow County Sheriff's Office deputies are set for Saturday and Sunday public services at Walmart.

Child ID cards and safety seat inspections are set to be provided by deputies at during a two-day event this weekend.

From 9 a.m. to noon Saturday on the general merchandise side of the store, deputies will be making Ident-A-Kid cards for parents and guardians of minors younger than 15.

"This card contains crucial information to law enforcement officers should your child become lost or missing," according to the press release. "The driver's license-like card contains your child's photograph, fingerprint and description.

"Parents keep the card with them at all times and, in an emergency, can provide law enforcement with it for immediate response."

Between noon and 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, deputies, specially trained by Safe Kids USA in proper installation, will inspect installed child safety seats.

"According to Safe Kids USA, child safety seats reduce fatal injury by 71 percent for infants and 54 percent for toddlers in passenger cars. Compared to seat belts, the use of child safety seats reduces the risk of injury among young children by 71 to 82 percent and fatal injury by 28 percent," the press release said. "The overall critical misuse for child restraints is about 73 percent.

"Infant seats have the highest percent of critical misuse, followed by rear-facing convertible seats."

If deputies find your seat is not properly installed, they'll instruct you in the proper installation but won't issue a citation.

"The safety of your child's life is our top priority in conducting this event," officials said in the release.
