Cartersville Woman Killed in Old Alabama Road Crash

A female passenger was thrown from the car after it left the roadway and overturned several times in Bartow County. In a separate incident, seven people were hurt in a crash involving three vehicles in Cartersville.

A Cartersville woman was killed early Friday in an one-vehicle crash on Old Alabama Road when the car she was in ran off the road, flipped several times and landed upside down near Pumpkinvine Creek.

The driver, Richard Wesley Kelley, 42, also of Cartersville, was hurt, while his passenger, Taryn Elizabeth McCormack, 24, was thrown from the car and died as a result of the 1:20 a.m. wreck, The Daily Tribune News reports.

Bartow County Scanner reports a police officer discovered a trail of debris indicating a car wreck, and after a brief search, found the car upside down on the bank of the creek. The driver had walked to a house off Bates Road to get help for his wife, whom he could not find. She was later found in the water.

GSP troopers are investigating the crash, which involved a black Infiniti G37 that had been traveling west on Old Alabama Road.

Cartersville police say a three-vehicle crash about 6:30 p.m. Friday injured seven, one of whom was airlifted for treatment.

Capt. Mark Camp said it happened in the southbound lanes of Highway 41 at Zena Drive, approaching Home Depot in Cartersville. Four people with non-life threatening injuries were taken by ambulance to Cartersville Medical Center, while a fifth was airlifted to nearby Kennestone hospital. Emergency medical workers treated others at the scene.

A Bartow County sheriff's deputy involved in the crash was not seriously injured, 11Alive reports.
