Cartersville Woman Charged With Allegedly Lying About Sexual Assault

The suspect claimed a Bartow County Sheriff's deputy assaulted her during a traffic stop on Tuesday, but investigators say that's not true.

A Cartersville woman who claimed she was sexually assaulted by a deputy during a traffic stop this week has been arrested for allegedly lying to police.

Bartow County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Cheryl Alisha Graves, 26, of East Church Street, Cartersville, Thursday morning, Oct. 18, on false statements and writing charges. 

The Sheriff's Office said in a release today that Graves reported to officials she was sexually assaulted by a deputy during a traffic stop near Euharlee on the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012.

The release said an investigation by the Bartow County Sheriff's Internal Affairs division led officers to believe Graves fabricated her claims about the incident, which lead to her arrest.  

Graves is being held in the Bartow County Jail pending a $7, 500 bond.
