Cartersville Man, Woman Charged with Murder after Roommate Found Dead

Danny Lamar Gravely, 47, of Cartersville, who suffered a single gunshot wound to the head, was found Sunday in the bed of his pickup truck in Emerson on Red Top Mountain Road.

Bartow County authorities arrested a Cartersville man and woman in connection with the death of a man found Sunday in Emerson.

Sheriff Clark Millsap said in a release that Bartow County Sheriff's Office investigators initially assisted Emerson police and the Georgia Bureau of Investigations with the case after 47-year-old Danny Lamar Gravely was found dead Sunday morning in the bed of his truck on Red Top Mountain Road in Emerson.

The agencies involved did not believe that the incident had taken place at that location and late Monday, learned that Gravely had died from a single gunshot wound to the head.

He had last been seen Saturday night at his Dogwood Place home in Cartersville and Bartow County. Searches of the property yielded evidence that pointed to the alleged murder having occurred at the residence, authorities said in the release.

This morning, BCSO investigators, a GBI agent and Emerson Police Chief Stan Bradley were at the Bartow County jail when Tammy Lynn Murphy, 50, and Steven Mark Eller, 45, both of Cartersville, were arrested in connection with Gravley's death.

Investigators believe the shooting resulted from an argument at the home, where the three lived. BCSO Sgt. Jonathan Rogers said the trio had been drinking and authorities believe "there was no substance" to what might have been considered a "commonplace" argument.

Murphy and Eller were each charged with murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, tampering with evidence and concealing the death of a person. Both are being held without bond pending a Superior Court hearing.
