A Cartersville man was taken to a metro Atlanta area hospital by ambulance today after cutting himself at the Frank Moore Administration and Judicial Center in Cartersville, which serves as the Bartow County courthouse.

Sheriff Clark Millsap said in a news release that just after 12:40 p.m., 41-year-old Jamie Lamar Green of Cartersville walked in the main courthouse entrance, and prior to walking through the security checkpoint, pulled out a knife and cut his own neck.

Bartow County Sheriff's Office deputies manning the security checkpoint immediately challenged Green and ultimately shot him once with a Taser before taking control of him, the release says.

Green sustained a serious injury to his neck and was taken by ambulance to a metro area hospital for treatment and evaluation.

He was at the courthouse for court hearings in connection with a May 30, 2012, arrest in Bartow County on charges of aggravated child molestation, child molestation and enticing a child for indecent purposes.

No one other than Green was injured during the incident. The courthouse remained operational and entrance foot traffic was temporarily re-routed while this incident was investigated.
