The agency participated in the national Drug Take Back Day on April 26.

The Cartersville Police Department collected over 70 pounds of unwanted medications last weekend.

The agency, which participating in the national Drug Take Back Day on April 26, collected 75 pounds of prescription and over-the-counter medications at CVS Pharmacy on North Tennessee Street.

Chief Thomas Culpepper thanked residents as well as the pharmacy who all made the collection day a success.

While the agency has another collection day planned in October, Culpepper encouraged residents to also utilize the drop box at the agency's headquarters, which sits at 195 Cassville Road.

Citizens can drop off their unwanted medications 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The department does not accept syringes and other bio-hazard items. Once collected, the drugs are burned so residents will not have to remove the labels from each bottle or box turned in.
