Man Charged in $85K Burglaries

Authorities served a search warrant Thursday and arrested a Cartersville man accused of stealing Georgia Department of Transportation equipment.

Investigators have charged a Cartersville man in connection with four burglaries of facilities and the thefts of $85,000 in property.

Authorities served a search warrant Thursday at the Law Road home of Jesse Daniel Thacker, 34, seeking the allegedly stolen property, Sheriff Clark Millsap said in a news release. Following the search, investigators arrested and charged Thacker in connection with the four burglaries.

Millsap described the alleged burglaries:

  • During the weekend prior to Jan.20 on GDOT property on West View Drive off U.S. Highway 411, $6,402 worth of tools, power equipment and a Chevrolet S-10 truck were taken.
  • A total of $16,605 in tools, power equipment and a Ford F-150 truck were stolen during the weekend prior to May 14 from GDOT property on Old Martin Road.
  • On GDOT property on Joe Frank Harris Parkway south of Cartersville during the weekend prior to May 29, $33,088 worth of property was taken, including a Ford Escort, tools and power equipment.
  • In the final burglary during the weekend prior to July 10, $31,309 of property was stolen from GDOT property on Peeples Valley Road, including a Ford F-150, computers, tools and power equipment.

So far, police have recovered more than $20,000 of the allegedly hot property, including two vehicles.

They say their investigation is ongoing and they expect other arrests and the recovery of more property.

Thacker has been released on $35,000 bond.
