Bartow Sting Nets Covington Man

Bartow County Sheriff's Office investigators conducted an online operation and arrested a man alleged to have arranged a sexual encounter with a girl he thought was 14 years old.

investigators arrested a Covington man accused of arranging to meet a 14-year-old girl for sex in Bartow County.

According to Sheriff Clark Millsap, investigators, working in conjunction with the Georgia Bureau of Investigations Internet Crimes Against Children Unit, wrapped up the month-long investigation on Jan. 25 with arrest warrants for Weldon Vincent Jackson, 25, of Covington.

The investigation began Dec. 10, when Jackson allegedly contacted what he thought was a 14-year-old female — actually an investigator with the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office — online and began chatting. Jackson arranged to meet with two 14-year-old girls for a sexual encounter in December.

He was arrested in January by the Gwinnett County Police Department on similar charges and Jan. 25, Bartow investigators filed charges on Jackson as well.

After making bond in Gwinnett County, Jackson was arrested Feb. 1  and transported to the Bartow County Jail. He was charged with 11 counts of sexual exploitation of a child and has been released on a $10,000 bond, pending further court action.
