Bartow Sheriff: Charges Upgraded to Murder in Death of Journey Ann Cowart, 1
Brandy Ann Boyd, 25, and her boyfriend, Austin Levi Payne, 24, have been charged with the murder of Boyd's 1-year-old daughter.
A Cartersville couple held responsible for the death of the mother''s 1-year-old baby have had their charges upgraded to murder on Monday.
Brandy Ann Boyd, 25, and her boyfriend, Austin Levi Payne, 24, have been sitting in the Bartow County since Jan. 24, when they were arrested and charged with aggravated battery and first-degree cruelty to children in the death of 1-year-old Journey Ann Cowart.
On Jan. 21, Journey died at Cartersville Medical Center after being taken to the emergency room not breathing.
Bartow County Sheriff Clark Millsap told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Monday that Journey was beaten to death, with "a fractured skull, blunt force trauma to the stomach." The sheriff also told the paper that there was evidence of previous abuse.
Journey's funeral was held Monday at The Church at Liberty Square in Cartersville.
