A Bartow County man was arrested Sunday after allegedly trying to stab his wife following an argument about his use of marijuana.

Deputies were called about 11:50 a.m. to the Whispering Pine Lane home in the city of White, where the woman said Angel Luis Bermudez, 28, told her he was going to stab her, ran in the house and came out with a knife, according to the Bartow County Sheriff's Office incident report, above.

"(The woman) said (Bermudez) lunged at her and swung the knife at her left shoulder, (but she) was able to step back and was not struck by the knife," the report says.

She said Bermudez wanted the keys to the car so he could sit in the car and smoke "weed," but she did not "want him smoking a whole lot," which led to an argument over the keys.

When deputies arrived, Bermudez was sitting in the car parked in the driveway.

"I could smell an overwhelming smell of marijuana," a deputy wrote in the report. "The male inside the vehicle would not open the door. I advised him I wasn't concerned with the marijuana, and for him to open the door."

Once Bermudez opened the door, he allegedly told deputies, "I'm at home and in my car." Although he denied having a knife or any other weapons, authorities found red-handled steak knife in his jacket, according to the report.

Bermudez told police he had forgotten about the knife. He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault under the Family Violence Act and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
