Fight Sends Woman, 20, To Hospital With Open Wounds, Bruises

Another woman was arrested in connection with the incident on Tumlin Street and charged with battery.

An altercation between two women New Year's Eve sent one to the hospital with open wounds and bruising to her eyes, lips, jaw and forehead.

Police got more than one call about the alleged assault Dec. 31, about 7:45 p.m., on Tumlin Street, according to the Cartersville Police Department report, above.

Police were dispatched about 9 p.m. to Cartersville Medical Center where a 20-year-old woman was being treated for her injuries, which she said included a mild concussion.

She said she was at her friend's 14 Tumlin St. house waiting for him to return when Yata Nicole Milner, 36, of 121 N. Bartow St. in Cartersville, came to the door and wanted to come inside. The alleged victim said she cracked the door and told Milner she could not come inside until the owner returned.

She told police she tried to close the door, but Milner pushed it open and "started fighting with her on the porch," the report says. "(The alleged victim said) Milner hit her numerous times in the face very hard with her fist and would not stop hitting her."

Police asked her to fill out a witness statement form "because it was very difficult for her to talk due to the fact that her jaw was very swollen," according to the report.

The younger woman said she did nothing to provoke Milner, but Milner later told police the woman had tried to hit her and she was defending herself.

Due to another call about the fight, police found a "very stressed out" Milner at Tumlin and Elizabeth streets and she "had to be calmed down" before talking to officers.

Milner said she is friends with the owner of the home and went there looking for him. She said the younger woman tried to punch her and she "took (the alleged victim) to the ground and started fighting," the report says.

Police say Milner had no visible bruises or marks, but the other woman had "multiple visible injuries."

Milner was arrested and jailed on a battery charge.
