Cheek declined to say if any of those arrested were doctors or medical professionals. He also would not detail the items taken via a search warrant or the specific allegations involved in the case.

The office at 16 Collins Drive is quiet with no apparent law enforcement activity. Two women approached the front door, which is tinted and locked, and one said she had belongings in the office, but the pair gave no additional comment and left.

The women said they are not local and had not heard of Tuesday's developments.

Reported Earlier

Following the city of Cartersville's recent on "pill mills," local, state and federal law enforcement agencies served warrants at Atlanta Medical Group, an apparent pain clinic, Tuesday morning.

The facilities website, which had been atlmedgroup.com, can no longer be found.

Chief Tommy Culpepper said authorities served the warrants at the 16 Collins Drive location, which is now shut down, as the result of an extensive investigation involving local, state and federal agencies.

Although he declined to make a formal statement, Clark Millsap said both search and arrest warrants were executed and indicated a number of people may have been arrested.

Local and federal authorities are tight-lipped about the far-reaching probe, but indicate the case crosses state lines and possibly involves Florida and Kentucky.

The case will be prosecuted federally and reaches beyond Cartersville and Bartow County, Culpepper confirmed.

reports warrants were being served in Florida to coincide with local operations and called the medical office "a major player in the illegal pharmaceutical drug trade." See the radio station's full report here.

U.S. Attorney's Office spokesman Patrick Crosby also declined formal comment, but did not deny an ongoing investigation. This afternoon, several local law enforcement and U.S. government vehicles and agents were at the office.
