Additional Complaints Filed Against Police Captain

Assistant City Attorney Keith Lovell says the district attorney's office is reviewing the police department's second internal investigation.

At least two additional Cartersville employees came forward with sexual harassment complaints against the now former Cartersville Police Department captain who resigned and .

As a result of that investigation, Cline was suspended without pay for a week and ordered to undergo trainin upon his return. He sent his resignation letter before returning to work as Systems administrator and public information officer, among other duties.

"After Capt. [Frankie} Cline’s suspension began on April 18, 2011, that afternoon two female employees mentioned that similar incidents had occurred with him in the past. These statements were reported to the chief of police, who requested that the Internal Affairs officer conduct a department-wide investigation into sexual harassment complaints," Assistant City Attorney Keith Lovell said in a statement. "As a result of said investigation, several additional complaints were made against Capt. Cline, but no other city of Cartersville employees. Captain Cline was not interviewed as part of said investigation.

"As is the policy of the city of Cartersville, this report has been forwarded to the District Attorney's [Office] for its review and consideration."

Lovell indicated the second investigation would be made public when the city receives the file back from the district attorney's office.

"As Capt. Cline has retired, there is no further action to be taken by the city of Cartersville regarding the report," he said in the statement.
