Adairsville, Cartersville Men Killed, Seriously Injured in Crash

The accident happened about 3:15 p.m. on Knox Bridge Highway near Sutallee Baptist Church, just over the Cherokee-Bartow line.

Lt. Jay Baker, the spokesman for the , has released the identities of the people involved in this afternoon's fatal accident on Knox Bridge Highway.

  • Barry Allen Freeman, 23, of Adairsville, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was a passenager in the back seat of the Saturn.
  • Richard Bagley, 29, of Cartersville, was the driver of the Saturn. Bagley was flown to Grady Hospital in Atlanta with serious injuries.
  • Matthew Wilcox, 37, of Cartersville, was a passenger in the front seat of the Saturn. He was transported by ambulance to in Marietta with serious injuries.
  • Brian Moore, 33, of Jackson, was the driver of the tractor-trailer. "Moore was not injured and will not be charged with any traffic violations," Baker said.

Tim Cavender, spokesman for , just issued a news release.

According to the news release, crews responded to an accident on Knox Bridge Highway near Sutallee Baptist Church at about 3:15 p.m.

"Emergency service personnel arrived on the scene to find a 4-door white Saturn automobile had collided with a transfer truck resulting in a fatality," Cavender said. "The fatality, a white male, was a passenger in the back seat of the Saturn."

While the 34-year-old driver of the truck appeared to have no injuries, the driver and passenger in the front seat of the Saturn had "moderate" injuries, Cavender said.

The 29-year-old driver was flown to Atlanta's Grady Hospital complaining of injuries to his arm. The 37-year-old passenger was taken by ambulance to Marietta’s .

"The cause of the accident is currently under investigation," Cavender said.

In a separate release, the spokesman for the said "preliminary indications are that a Saturn with a driver and two passengers conducted a U-turn in front of the tractor trailer.

"Both vehicles were traveling eastbound," Lt. Jay Baker said. "The tractor trailer struck the Saturn and the Saturn was knocked off the roadway."

Original breaking news post 4:10 p.m.

A man has died after a two-car accident on Knox Bridge Highway just inside the Cherokee County line, the spokesman for the just told Canton-Sixes Patch.

Lt. Jay Baker said two people were injured in the wreck near Rhine Road and one was flown to an unknown hospital.

"We're not releasing any names," he said. "We're still in the process of notifying family."

All Baker added was that the deceased man was a white male.

"Highway 20 is shut down," he said.
