Our son has it as well he was 11 even he was DX. Keeping them on same schedule daily is very important.Having an anger outlet is even more important.. We got ours a big stuffed jimmy nutron doll he could punch out when he was angry. Now he is 20 he has a punching bag. They are usually very angry most of the time, due to the not being able to communicate. It frustrates them. Our son we have to look him in the face to tell him things, or he literally does not know we are speaking to him. I cannot tell you how many times we had his hearing checked!! A speech therapist helps them interact and the schools can help as well by having specialists work with them on interacting and communication skills.

Autism in Bartow is a local support group that meets monthly for caregivers of children on the Autism Spectrum. They have a website you can go to for information on their meetings and various events that they have. http://autisminbartow.org/ Also, there is a special needs sports group that is held through the local rec department. If your son enjoys sports like baseball, that might be a good outlet for him. For a therapist, we used Dr. Jennifer Smith. She was wonderful with our son (who is on the mild end of the Autism Spectrum) and our daughter (who has severe ADHD and behavioral problems). She works with your child and with you to help with behavior issues. Here is a link to her therapist page on Psychology Today http://therapists.psychologytoday.com/rms/prof_detail.php?profid=110774&sid=1393373449.3254_18715&city=Cartersville&county=Bartow&state=GA&spec=5&tr=ResultsName&trow=1&ttot=19. Dr. Susan Flanagan is also very good. I have numerous friends with autistic children who see Dr. Flanagan. She is in the same office as Dr. Marbury.
